I must admit it's time to give up. The snow that fell in just a night time did not incite me a lot to use my bike on the next day. I think I will sponsor the public transport this winter, by profiting to read my Drupal books and taking it "easy".

However, I must admit I am particularly happy to see the snow falling. Winter is definitely my favourite season, where you see weather's real power. Also, you need to be more creative in what to do and use an iron will for things, including getting out.

Le 22 octobre prochain, la population est donc invitée à s’informer sur cette problématique et à se sensibiliser à l’importance de ne pas jeter le matériel informatique et électronique aux poubelles. Ce type de déchets toxiques représente un danger pour l’environnement et la santé lorsqu’il se retrouve dans les sites d’enfouissement. En cette journée, nous vous invitons plutôt à rapporter votre matériel informatique chez l’un des partenaires participants qu’il s’agisse d’un récupérateur, d’un recycleur ou encore d’un éco-quartier rallié à la cause pour l’occasion.

DrupalCamp Montreal 2009 is on now. More than 100 people, presentations in 2 tracks and also some informal ones. This is my third DrupalCamp Montreal (even if on the website is written it is the second one).

The first one was in 2006, and this was my first meet-up with Drupal, and with the community. I must admit, at this time, I did not get much impressed by the software, since I was proud user and contributor to Spip (another cms). But I liked the community though. I met some great women (Myriam, Angie "webchick" and others).. some great people and an easy-going space, where you can join sessions, ask questions and fool around with the software.

DrupalCamp Montreal 2009 is different. It is much more big, more institutionalised (in McGill University), more organised (coffee, lunch, wifi, schedule, registration, t-shirts, book store, video streaming...). I like it because it has somehow kept its informality, and warm welcome for newcomers. I even attended the first day without registering, and it was not problematic. No fierce control, no stopping unregistered participants, things are voluntary and grass-root raisen, and since this does not stop the community to participate, to pay its fees, to organise in a good way, to have great and high quality participations. Even if companies participated, there was not big visibility of the corporate participants, no logos, no intrusion.

The most interesting for me was : Angie's Keynote about Drupal 7 from the first day and the training and support experience of Caroline and Deb.

I was also at the Gmap-ing and Views by Lis and Jake, but they took about 30 min to start, and then my concentration went away, the site kept crashing, the presentations was slow, full of tech probs.. and I got nothing in the end. People starting laughing and participating in troubleshooting, but not really into contents...

Since I will be teaching Drupal soon, it is a good warming-up excercise for me to get the new software directions and features.

The Graduate students of the Department of communication at the Université de Montréal are pleased to invite you to a conference by Andrew Pickering. Andrew Pickering is internationally known as a leader in the field of science and technology studies. He is the author of Constructing Quarks: A Sociological History of Particle Physics, and The Mangle of Practice: Time, Agency and Science.

He will present his coming book: Sketches of Another Future: Cybernetics in Britain 1940-2000. Sketches analyses cybernetics as a distinctive form of life-spanning brain science, psychiatry, robotics, the theory of complex systems, management, politics, the arts, education and spirituality- and offers a promising alternative to currently hegemonic cultural formations.

The talk with take place in Room 3110, Pavillon de l'aménagement, Université de Montréal 2940, ch. de la Côte Ste-Catherine. September 10th 2009, 7:30 PM. A cocktail will follow the talk. Métro Université de Montréal, Bus 129 Côte Ste-Catherine.

Ce dimanche 26 Avril, de 13h à 16h, aura lieu une formation à Scribus, logiciel de PAO, l’outil libre idéal pour la réalisation de vos plaquettes, livres et magazines. La formation sera assurée par Louis Desjardins, développeur du programme Scribus, formateur au libre dans les milieux scolaires et organisateur des Libre Graphic Meetings à Montréal.

La dernière heure de l’atelier sera consacrée à de l’entraide informelle sur les usages des logiciels libres.

L'année 2009 doit être pour le Québec l'année de l'appropriation collective de l'informatique libre.

Alors qu'ailleurs dans le monde, les nouvelles technologies créent de nouvelles richesses, réinventent le lien social, libèrent les énergies de l'innovation, renforcent la compétitivité économique en participant à un développement économique durable, une chape de plomb recouvre le Québec et empêche celui-ci de rentrer dans le XXIème siècle.

Alors qu'aux États-Unis, le président Obama annonce la mise à disposition de tous les documents de l'administration sous un format libre et accessible gratuitement par tous, au Québec, l'affairisme, la main mise de multinationales sur nos systèmes d'informations, la myopie et la complicité d'une grande partie de la classe politique rendent la tâche ardue. Ce combat essentiel pour notre démocratie et l'avenir du Québec doit aboutir.

Pouvons nous changer les choses ? Oui, c'est possible !

Résumé

L'arrivée du Web 2.0 a modifié la pratique et la façon de penser le Web donnant aux internautes la possibilité d'interagir à la fois avec le contenu des pages et entre internautes. Le partage d'informations à travers les blogues, fils rss, les portails communautaires, forums, les sites de partage de vidéos et de photos (YouTube, Flickr, Vimeo), la folksonomie, les wikis et autres, est devenue chose courante. De plus, la philosophie du libre a introduit une autre façon de penser, en contrepoint à la pratique établie. Ce nouveau contexte questionne le droit d'auteur.

Comment mieux comprendre le droit d'auteur est l'ambition de cette conférence. Dans sa présentation, Mayi-Eder Inchauspé va dresser pour nous un portrait du droit d'auteurs. Tout en traçant un bref historique, elle va démêler la terminologie et définir les concepts derrière ces termes: oeuvre, auteur, droit d'exploitation, copyright, copyleft, droit intellectuel, droits de propriété, le domaine public, les licences Creative Commons, etc.
